Watching the IAAF games Moscow 2013, normally I am not much of a sport lover but it caught my attention as I was randomly changing channels. I just caught the glimpses of the qualifier events for the 100 m - men running. Sprinting is actually the real word. I just had watched the latest bollywood flick +Bhaag Milkha Bhaag . And given to the nice work by +Farhan Akhtar I had an adrenaline rush in my veins and that gave goosebumps. I actually did a workout that day. Being fit and fine is what I thought was enough for what these athletes do. The qualifiers began I expected some Indian guy from a far region whose name would be weird even to spell would be participating. To not my surprise, not even a single Indian participate in the event.
I thought a guy from Pakistan, SriLanka or other such neighbours of ours might be participating. But that was not the case. My little knowledge about the sprinting events forced me to come back to my old friend +Wikipedia. I read whatever I got about it. The sad state of Indian athletes came to the limelight. I opened a site, www.indianathletics.in I randomly read on the introduction that some Khushbir kaur had improved her personal best in 20 km running and had finished on the 29th spot on the total of 62 runners. I was too bored to surf the contents more.
I then pondered for a while what the hell goes wrong? Why aren't we winning medal? Why is the Olympics or the International games events not considering reservation quota? (pun intended) Given the population even a chinese looking guy from sikkim can win a medal, then why aren't some of them actually participating.
Out of my pure curiosity I wasted some more time in finding the list of the organizations in the country that were giving in athletics like running/sprinting, again not to my surprise, except a few names nothing worth appeared. Sports is like a taboo in some of the regions. Educated idiots don't give a damn about what is the condition of such a nice sport. No one is giving a damn! Infront of 2G scam, coal scam, swiss bank hookups I don't think we have the time/interest for the sports.
We are not on the top because We don't want to be there.
For winners the blaming games don't work, hoping someday in womb of some Indian mother would be born that champion that would make the nation proud.
Jaago Bharat Jaago.
